Winter Wonderland in NYC

November 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Central Park

In January 2009, my boyfriend and cousin took this photo in Central Park. It was a sunny and bright winter day, and I love the contrast of nature with the tall Manhattan buildings in the background. Also, the snow makes everything look so pretty and “clean”.

That being said, I’m immensely happy that it is 16 degrees Celsius today (60.8Fahrenheit), and no snow yet! ;)

Easy Apple Cake Recipe

November 8, 2009 · 1 Comment

Apple Cake

Here is the easy recipe for this delish’ apple cake:

Make white butter cream, by whipping 150 gram (10.5 tbsp) butter and 150 gram (5.2 Oz) sugar. Take 2 eggs, stir them a little, and add them to the butter cream. Take 250 gram (8.8 Oz) wheat flour, 1 tsp (5ml) baking powder, and 1 tsp vanilla sugar, and sieve it into the mixture. Peel and cut 3-4 green apples. Put half of the mixture in a baking pan, though I recommend to use baking paper in the bottom and spray the whole pan with baking spray, to prevent the cake from sticking. Add the apple pieces, as well as 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Finally, add the rest of the mixture, and put the pan in the middle of the pre-heated oven. The temperature should be 160 Celsius (320 Fahrenheit), and bake for about 45min.

Good luck! ;)

The City & The Hills

November 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The CityThe Hills

Finally, the first episode of both The City and The Hills’ new season, is up and running on MTV’s website (what took them so long?!), and I’m back to watching my fav’ “reality” shows. :D

The new season of The City starts on episode 14, which you may find by clicking here, and for The Hills, start on episode 11, which is here.

Btw, if anyone knows why they don’t say that these episodes are part of Season 2 (The City) and Season 6 (The Hills), please elaborate. It really does not make sense to me.

Btw btw, I miss Lauren Conrad! Sigh…! :(

Anyways, ENJOYYYYY!!!

UPDATE: I realize now that this season’s 2nd episode for both series (The City: ep. 15 and The Hills: ep. 12), will not be available until this Friday, November 6. Patience……!!!

Halloweeeeen

IMG_1138This year, we watched New York’s Village Halloween Parade at 6th ave and 14th street, and I had a good time looking at costumes that were scary and/or funny. Some were easily recognizable, like the Joker from Batman, or Michal Jackson in Thriller; yet, some I could not quite figure out. Additionally, there were those who’d probably used a lot of time (and money) on their “master piece”, while there where those who literally just showed up in their underwear.

After a quite claustrophobic experience last year, where most of the time, I could not move an inch, we wanted to avoid the huge masses of people cumulating on West 4th street. However, the pouring rain this year, and consequently the umbrellas covering our view, limited what we could see of the parade, as well as how many (or few) photos that came out good. Thus, if you ain’t satisfied with mine, check out NYCfoto’s for more, by clicking here.
Hope you had a very scary evening, and ate lots of candy! Mu-ha-ha-ha-haaaa!!!! ;)

Top of The Rock

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

For over a month, I’ve been meaning to post these photos that we took while visiting Top of The Rock, at Rockefeller Center. Pardon the picture quality, as they were taken with a cell phone cam.
Top of the Rock 2The view was amazing! And I’m not sure if it was because we came closer to the sun, but the temperature felt much warmer up there, compared to down in the city streets.Top of the Rock 3Top of the Rock 4Top of the Rock 6Top of the Rock 5
These last photos were taken inside the very fast elevator, which brought us up to the top. They showed this cool movie thingy in the ceiling, which was like a “countdown”. Top of the Rock 7

Sunny Sunday Shopping

October 26, 2009 · 3 Comments

Fall Foliage

Miraculously, yesterday became sunny, with clear blue sky and 14 degrees Celsius (57.2 Fahrenheit)! I feel that the New York winter is coming way to soon this year, thus, I was not taking this weather for granted. My bf and I bought a Dunkin Donut’s coffee each, and went on an afternoon stroll around Park Slope; which ended with us spontaneously jumping on the D train at Union Street, and taking it to 34th street, Manhattan (Herald Square). There I did some minor shopping: got a black turtleneck sweater at Zara + grey velvet leggings and a hip grey Tee at H&M. I’m telling myself it was OK, as only the sweater was a lil’ pricy ($39), and the rest was less than $20 a piece (internal justification..?). Le petite shopping was followed by some Jamaican Roti Curry Chicken at Golden Crust, Union Square, though the gravy was a little watered out. Then we did some serious window shopping in Soho, and got back home just in time before Desperate Housewives. ;)

My New Men’s Guess Watch

October 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I got this Guess men’s watch today at Macy’s, as an early b-day gift! It’s a beautiful Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch, and you can get it here for $115 (692NOK incl. tax and today’s currency). And btw, even though it is for men, it’s not that heavy.

I wanted to get a somewhat masculine, steel watch with no “bling”, because I didn’t have any simple timepieces like that. But women’s watches are usually smaller, more decorated, and pricier. Then, a little bird told me, that it’s now trendy for women to wear men’s watches. So, suddenly I had much more options, and it even turns out that men’s watches can be quite affordable.

If you are a Norwegian vacationing in the US, I recommend you to check out Guess watches, handbags, clothes, shoes and accessories, as they tend to be waaay cheaper than in Norway. ;)

Newman Library at Baruch College

I took these photos the other day, when I was studying with my friend at the Newman Library, Baruch College. I really like the architecture, as well as that of the main school building, Vertical Campus.

Here are more photos of my school, a Baruch College video , and a picture of the amazingly designed Vertical Campus front entrance.

Couples Retreat

October 10, 2009 · 1 Comment

This Friday, we went to the premiere of ‘Couples Retreat’, at the Pavilion Theater in Brooklyn. It’s hilarious, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely! I hoped to see more of Dr. Ken, playing a couples counselor, though the cast was perfectly put together. Btw, there was a mouse inside the theater, no joke! It ran up and down the mid section, causing people to be extra aware of their feet. That’s New York for ya’! :D Go see the movie!

Inside Vertical Campus, Baruch College

October 6, 2009 · 1 Comment

I’m really busy with school work nowadays, and my friend and I try to study at school even the days we don’t have classes. I had an Industrial Organization (Economics Elective) presentation today and a submission in Psychology-Adult Development due yesterday. Next week will be crazy with 4 midterm exams. Luckily, I get extra study time on Monday, as it is Columbus Day, and the school will be closed. My 5th midterm will be the week after. Hectic, but that’s the way I like it! :D

Here are some photos I have taken inside the main school building, the Vertical Campus. Usually, there are tons of people running around like little ants, but it was pretty empty the day I took these photos – perhaps since it was on a Friday.

Study time at Barnes & Noble, Union Square

October 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Instead of staying at home, I prefer sitting at a cafe, sipping a Tall Coffee w/milk, when I got a lot of homework to do. The people and the noise surrounding me, somehow improves my ability to focus. My favorite study spots are Barnes & Noble in Park Slope (Brooklyn), and the one at Union Square (Manhattan). B&N is a chain of large bookstores, incl. cafe where they serve Starbucks. You can skip through their magazines and books for free, and finally their WiFi has become free; though, this has caused them to remove all power outlets (why?!!). I took these photos when I was at B&N Union Square with my friend this Monday. Going to the Park Slope one this weekend, as I have a long and difficult psychology submission to do, due this Monday. Enjoy your weekend, as I shall enjoy-eth mine! ;)
